Spring!

We have officially survived winter!!! Here is a jocks & cheerleaders photoshoot I did after school with my friends on our new "bleachers", as evidence of the beautiful weather we've had this week. We listened to songs from Grease and maybe even got a bit of a tan.

Brushing Up

/ Monday, March 23, 2015 /
So sometimes I forget I have this blog, obviously.

It's pretty hard to keep this up along with work and school and terrible weather, which is especially uninspiring in the city. What is incredibly and dangerously easy, though, is shopping. End of season sales (which is generous since it's still in the negative double digits and the snow only just melted) and extra employee discounts at work lately have made it nearly impossible to suppress my spending urges.

I've been spending a lot more in general because I have money from working (which is just kind of how things work), mostly concert tickets in excess because I insist on buying for my friends as well as myself, hoping that one day they will pay me back... So far this year I have tickets for Sufjan Stevens, Field Trip (Purity Ring), Bestival Toronto (Florence + the Machine, Shamir, Owen Pallett, Wavves), and Nicki Minaj! Osheaga tickets go on sale tomorrow morning along with the final lineup, so I'll probably be going to that as well...

Cremesheen Glass in  Pagoda, lipstick in Creme Cup, and MAC x Nasty Gal in Runner

MAC "Bao Bao's Jewels" pallette

Other than concerts, makeup has been a major culprit in eating up my cash in the last couple weeks, starting with a $100 splurge at MAC that has trickled down into stocking up on Real Techniques brushes. The majority of my makeup collection has been gifts and free swag from my aunts, one of whom owns a drug store and the other has a Sephora addiction, so I've been using that fact to rationalize all my shopping.

I originally stepped into MAC to see if they had the Cinderella and Toledo collections in, because I am a sucker limited edition packaging. The Toledo collection had arrived a couple days early and was already half sold out, but the girl set my friend and I up for appointments for the next week to try out the new stuff. My appointment was with an amazing MUA who was super fun to talk to and she set me up with exactly what I wanted. The Cinderella lipstick that I wanted to try had sold out on the first day, but luckily this gorgeous Bao Bao Wan pallette was still in stock. I had seen it earlier with swatches on The Makeup Box but assumed it would be out of my price range, and I would stick with the pretty affordable MAC lipsticks. Buuut, Esther was just too enthusiastic about how great I looked with all the products she used on me, so I ended up getting them all!

The products she used on me were the Cremesheen lipstick in Cremecup with Viva Glam Rihanna lipglass on top, Bao Bao Wan pallette and brown eyeliner, mascara and concealer.

The Smashbox eyeliner and UD primer are from my first visit to Ulta this weekend. I didn't know there were physical stores of Ulta and just kind of stumbled upon one, and I scored the primer potion for $10, which is a fraction of the Canadian cost!

And finally my Real Techniques brushes. I have been looking for these at a decent price for a while, never coming across them in a store until two weeks ago at the Asian mall. I got a travel set for $18, but then I found the same set at my own store for less, so I bought that as well. Then I found individual brushes which I used my employee discount for, and a set that was incomplete because someone had stolen two, so I got a discount on those as well. In the end I now have 10 Real Techniques brushes and absolutely no money :)

Some other drugstore lipsticks I've been using
(btw sorry for no swatches, i have terrible lighting in my room, so all the colours would be off!)

One thing I can be guilt-free about is my new camera, compliments of my grandpa who just bought himself the 7D Mark II. All the photos above were taken with it and I'm in love

Happy Haul-idays!

I didn't post here for a good 2 months... but I'm back for a bit. I'll probably do a 2014 reflection (on music, tv, movies, fashion, events) in the new year, so stay tuned!

This post is just to show off what I got for Christmas and what I scored on Boxing Day, won't be too picture heavy though.

I got quite a few of the things that I wanted, some that I wasn't even thinking about during Christmas, like the sewing machine and the alpaca plush haha. The pink box in the bottom corner is all the Lush products I got from various people, including all the stuff in the Christmas Candy Box, which, as always, included the Snow Fairy shower gel, as well as Bubblegum lip scrub, pink FUN, and the Snow Fairy massage bar. Below the alpaca is a Los Campesinos! tote bag I bought myself, along with the Christmas card Gareth was kind enough to send me. Here's all the other LC! merch I was stupid enough to pay international shipping for this year.

My dad got my mom a Canada Goose jacket and it looks sooo good on me :(

My boxing day haul might be more impressive than what I actually unwrapped on Christmas morning. My parents and I woke up at 8am, were out the door before 9 and got to the Kind Exchange soon after they opened for their 70% off sale. We exchanged the creepers my dad bought me for a pair that fit, hit up two locations of American Apparel in a search for disco pants (I ended up getting a disco skirt instead), failed to buy anything during Lush's BOGO sale (they were sold out of everything I wanted), then finally settled down for lunch. My dad went to work after that, but I wasn't done yet. I finally bought a couple items at the new location of Japanese quality goods store MUJI, it was whatever they had left really, because the holiday season has left their shelves practically empty.

When my parents went to Hong Kong in September, T.U.K. creepers were on my list of things to be on the lookout for, but I figured they had forgot all about it. When I unwrapped these I was pretty surprised, but later very disappointed to find that they were way too small. Luckily the store had a pair that were just my size when we went to exchange them yesterday morning. I also picked up some acrylic pen stands that I'm going to use for my makeup brushes. I'll probably do a separate post later about my new makeup set-up.

Topshop had racks and racks of clearance items, but I ended up just getting a couple small things; a red eyeshadow (colour payoff of this is surprisingly great?), some ankle socks and tights, and a baby blue crop top. As I mentioned before my first stop in the morning was the Kind Exchange, but I also went to another location after American Apparel, so I ended up with almost $100 worth of thrift items. In the bags below there's a huge army jacket, a grey denim American Apparel skirt and a black figure skater dress, some stuff my mom bought, a  new-w/-tags glittery Topshop dress, and a black/white striped Uniqlo turtleneck.

Merry Christmas and/or whatever you celebrate! See you in the New Year (or maybe earlier than that if I find the time to post again).

Autumn Adventures in High Park Pt. 2

/ Saturday, October 18, 2014 /
Last time I was at High Park was around this time last year, as documented in this post. We did another photoshoot with a few new friends, although we didn't go to the Lesbian Feminist Haunted House afterwards this time. I didn't bring my camera so all photos are from my friends.

Alexander Wang x H&M

I had totally forgot about this collab until just now. I want like half the collection so I'm gonna document a realistic wishlist here. And I just got a job at Marshall's downtown so I can actually afford things!

nuit blanche

/ Sunday, October 5, 2014 /
I totally lucked out last night at Nuit Blanche because the Design Exchange Politics of Fashion exhibit was PWYC, so my friends and I started off our night there. Unfortunately (but also this is good news), I had a job orientation to go to the next morning so I had to leave at 11:30.

Here we are! #FTB#DXPOF

Welcome back! School has already drained me and I have little energy to form a sentence let alone write a coherent and interesting blog post. But here I go anyway. It hasn't even been a week since my last post, but a lot has happened! Somehow I forgot to mention the fancy TIFF party I went to last Wednesday. Unfortunately I only had the chance to see one film this year (which wasn't even that great), but luckily I have connections who got me into an exclusive party at Birks on Bloor, for outstanding women in film. Tatiana Maslany won an award, as well as Cobie Smoulders (who couldn't make it). I was lucky (and confident) enough to meet her, and I spoke to Lara Jean Chorostecki from Hannibal! Both women are incredibly small. The party itself wasn't very interesting, and there wasn't much to photograph.
